Use your smartphone smartly and your host will never invite you again (you can thank us later)
Got invited to a party by your boss which you just can’t get out of? Or that pesky aunt has sent her pre-Christmas dinner invitation yet again? Instead of grumbling away the evening in a corner, smiling politely at the digs and jibes, or worse turning down the invitation, get into the mood, eat and drink, and plan revenge. All you need is a smartphone and enough mischief in you. We show you how to get started:
Get the most irritating ringer
Your host has just got up to make a speech? Download and launch Most Annoying Ringtones Free (free, iOS) or Annoying Ringtones (free, Windows Phone). Now ask a friend to call you every 10 minutes. Let the call ring, wait for a bit as the other guests start staring at you and then pick up the phone and talk loudly without exiting the room. Add a couple of guffaws for special effects. If you don’t have a friend to call, use Fake Call (free, Android) or Fake-A-Call Free (free, iOS), which lets you schedule fake calls in advance.
Play a bad DJ
Insist on playing the deejay, or DJ, for the party. Most parties start at a soft and mellow pace, get high in the middle and soften again at the end. Change it dramatically to jar people. Start with loud numbers which don’t let people talk to each other. As the guests are just about to get used to your deejaying style, put on the most slow and boring numbers. To play with special effects, use Edjing 5 (free on Android, iOS and Windows Phone; visit Edjing.com), a DJ music mixer which allows you to choose from a vast library of iTunes, SoundCloud and Deezer, and remix and add effects instantly. Keep adding effects to kill all songs, loop the most boring ones, add the scratch feature on to the tracks again and again.
Become a selfie stalker
Photobomb other people’s selfies, making the most twisted, ugly faces. Jump in precisely when someone says cheese, ape the poses, stand like a dork. If you like to be anonymous, insert a Grumpy Cat instead of your own face into the party images with GrumpyBomb (free, iOS) and make memes. Tag everyone on to the grumpy cats’ images on their social media pages.
Show your cool life, in slow motion
Take out the million photographs you’ve taken on your travels, all of those pictures in various poses, from various angles that you’ve ever clicked, which you could never find time to delete, in a slideshow, with 5 seconds gap each.
